We designed a number of infographics that would be printed, showcased on Innocence Project's website and social media channels.
“After a thorough search, we were delighted to find Good World Media to design the “300 DNA Exonerations” infographic for our media campaign. Unlike many other companies, through Good World Media we could liasion directly with the actual designer on the job to discuss our vision and objectives. With a tight deadline and quick turnaround, this accessibility saved us much needed time on visioning and revisioning. Good World Media readily understood what we needed and provided it at an exceptional price. Our directors, board members and staff were thrilled with the outcome–and so were our supporters. The “300 Exonerations and Counting” infographic received nearly 1,500 views on our site and thousands of “likes” and “shares” through social media. We have recommended Good World Media to other organizations and we look forward to the opportunity to work with them again.”

Objective
Details: Graphic Design
The Innocence Project is a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system. In an effort to increase exposure to their mission, attract more supports, and showcase their successes, they approached us to design a number of infographics that would be printed, showcased on their site, and shared across social media.
Stage 1: Discovery
We embarked upon two design projects for the Innocence Project. The first, entitled “300 Exonerations and Counting”, celebrating a substantial milestone in their mission is to free the staggering numbers of innocent people who remain incarcerated. The second, entitled “DNA Access Laws : A National Overview”, focused on the current state of DNA access laws by states and milestones in the battle for prisoner DNA testing. It was our task to successfully analyze their content, find visual representations for various aspects of it, and create compelling, on-brand design pieces that would motivate their followers and influence those new to their mission.
Stage 2: Empower
For our first project, the infographic “300 Exonerations and Counting”, we worked closely with the organization’s internal team to gather their data, understand their current brand look and feel, and streamline the content into a singular, coherent piece. Upon completion of these initial discussions, we “roughed out” the general design, showing the general flow of information visually, as well as the graphical look. We focused on creating a visual aesthetic that would intuitively communicate large amounts of data in a strong, graphically way. In order to achieve this “visual marriage” of image and information, we chose a clean, vector-based visual style, allowing the graphical elements to stand out without distracting from the overall content. The resulting piece successfully represented the breakdown of the exonerations, the magnitude of the injustice, and the steps to that lead to freeing these prisoners…all in a digestible piece.
For our second project, the piece entitled “DNA Access Laws : An Overview”, we followed a similar process as the first – acquire desired data and content from the organization, evaluate and streamline it, and then create a rough mock-up of what the final piece before delving into a more polished visual design. Here, we focused on a DNA helix representing the 50 states, which acts as a timeline for DNA law acceptance and a visual metaphor for the subject matter. The second half of the infographic design illustrates the five issues that still impeded the creation of ideal, fair laws across the United States. Again, we chose the vector-based look we designed for the first infographic, giving both pieces a similar aesthetic that connected them visually.
Stage 3 – Engage
Both infographics were well-received by the organization and their followers, with the “300 Exonerations and Counting” becoming a fixture on social media and powerful messaging tool for their mission. We also created a double-sided letter-sized version of the design, which was used as a promotional piece at an organization conference.
