Explore+Discover is a new early childhood learning center located in Manhattan, scheduled to open in September 2014. Their mission – offer high quality education and care for infants and toddlers in a social setting that encourages play, friendship and artistic expression as pathways for learning and self discovery. Looking to differentiate themselves in a highly competitive area, they looked towards us to create a compelling identity and supporting print media to lead up to their launch.
Stage 1: Discovery
We began by looking at the current landscape of early childhood centers in Manhattan, examining brochures, photos, and logos in an attempt to visually differentiate E+D from what was already established. The route we choose wasn’t radical, but simply a stronger emphasis on their core values – a responsive curriculum, a strong relationship between staff and children, and an inspiring facility. And unlike other, more whimsical branding for children, we wanted the logo and printed material to be directed at and ultimately appeal towards parents, through a sense of trust and professionalism, relationship-based photos, bold yet sophisticated colors, and a strong typeface.
Stage 2: Empower
Working closely with the E+D team, we initially created and finalized the logo, using a colorful palette and iconography that would signify the scope, breadth, and excitement of the E+D’s educational program, and appeal to the parents that would ultimately be making the choices for their children . With the main identity established, we then designed stationary, posters, banners, forms, and even window hangings for their under-construction Manhattan center that would establish and promote the brand. We also chose appropriate photos from their library, focusing on images that would appeal to potential customers and reinforce the mission of the center. Along with these internal collateral materials, we collaborated closely with the E+D team to design numerous print advertisements and digital banners for outside vendors, working with each magazine’s respective print and digital team to ensure all files were properly delivered.
Stage 3 – Engage
E+D recently open their first early learning center to great success, bolstered by our strong, professional print design. We continue to work closely with the company, creating new advertisements, promotions and materials that encourage new enrollment and cement their position as an experienced leader in early childhood education.
